Greenhills Irish Bakery
About This Spot
Stepping into Greenhills Irish Bakery in the heart of Dorchester is like finding a small corner of Ireland nestled on Adams Street. The moment you push open the door, there’s a welcoming warmth—not just from the freshly baked breads and pastries, but from the genuine smiles behind the counter. It’s the kind of spot where time slows down just enough to savor the little things: the scent of molasses-rich soda bread baking, the gentle hum of morning conversations, and the soft clatter of cups from the coffee bar.
This cozy bakery and breakfast nook feels nestled comfortably within its neighborhood, bustling quietly with locals who’ve woven it into their daily rhythm. Seating may be limited, but that only adds to the inviting intimacy here, encouraging guests to lean in and relax over a thoughtfully crafted meal. The friendly chatter and occasional laughter create an atmosphere that’s both approachable and quietly vibrant—a true neighborhood haven where everyone seems to know your name or is eager to learn it.
At Greenhills, the experience is not just about eating but about tasting a heritage carried lovingly through recipes and moments shared. Whether it’s a morning spent biting into a flaky croissant sandwich filled with savory Irish sausage and eggs, or the simple pleasure of a warm slice of black pudding nestled inside a fresh roll, the flavors tell stories of tradition and comfort. The array of breads—brown, molasses, and even raisin soda bread—invites you to explore the textures and aromas that have made Irish baking a quiet treasure.
What makes Greenhills truly special is how it melds the familiar with the authentic. Regulars come for the little trifecta cupcakes or to grab a hearty Irish breakfast sandwich that feels like a hug after a long day. Newcomers often pause, surprised by the depth of flavors and the care poured into each bite. It’s a place where tradition meets the cadence of modern Boston life, wrapped in the aroma of freshly ground coffee and sweet treats.
More than just food, Greenhills Irish Bakery serves up human moments—a mother and daughter sharing a scone, friends catching up over whoopie pies, a quiet morning solo with a Boston cream pie and a hot cup of coffee. It’s a place that invites you not just to taste but to belong, however briefly, to a little community bound by good food and genuine warmth.

If you enjoy Irish food this is the place for you. Get an Irish breakfast, some actual scones, and a plethora of baked goods. They also have coffee with plenty of flavorings. Will definitely put this place in my weekly routine.

A taste of Ireland in Dorchester! I have driven by Greenhills Irish Bakery many times, but never had the chance to visit. I made the time to go, and it was a wonderful experience. All of the employees were friendly and helpful, and there was a large selection to choose from. I got a croissant with spinach and feta, a cranberry scone, and a coffee. Everything was delicious. The next time I go back, I will definitely get the Irish breakfast sandwich. Slainte!

Everyone at Greenhills is wonderful. The food is just like when i'm in Ireland! The Large Irish Breakfast Sandwich is the best. Love the Irish in Boston atmosphere. "Sláinte"

My family adores Greenhills! Me and my daughter, Louise, adore their trifecta cupcakes. They also have a lovely selection of sandwiches that my hubby loves, and that’s rare coming from him because he makes a mean sandwich himself! It can get busy in there and it’s small, but it’s cozy and welcoming, lending it to its charm. Seating is limited, but it’s a lovely weekday spot to enjoy a coffee and a pastry and sit and people watch. Parking is a bit confusing, though, so if you can walk or find street parking, you’re golden. I’d be cautious of parking in the lots to the rear of the building as the owners of the rear lot (NOT Greenhills) are rather predatory when it comes to towing vehicles.

If you're ever in Dorchester, stop in to this place! I got a tip that the Irish Breakfast roll was good, and it was the best breakfast sandwich I have ever had. No question. I got a tip to get it with butter, ketchup, and brown sauce, and that was the move. It was the best. The meat, bread, all of it. I got the small, and it hit the spot. The cinnamon rolls were excellent, too. I will look for any excuse to come back.

Food and service is always excellent. Breakfast rolls always taste great and fill me up for the rest of the day. Shout out to the lady Trisha for knowing how to make a cup of tea the right way just the way it should be, its just like getting a cup of tea back home in the green lands. They need more people like her in the world that know how to make a proper cup of tea!

Great place! Sandwiches and desserts are very good. They have pastries and other breakfast items too - haven't tried them but have never heard complaints! They're really busy and may not be able to pay a lot of attention to everyone.

Adorable little shop. They have a box of day old items which is fun. The banana cookies weren’t my fav but the raspberry pastry I got for my friend was, she tells me, delicious. There is a small step to get in, and it is a little crowded, but there’s seating as well if you want to stay, and parking out front on the street.
